I am a big fan of welt pockets, and I love the look of zipper pockets. I decided to put one on the chest of the GYCT Designs' Primary Tee (provided to bloggers for the purpose of this tour). Welt pockets using knits isn't one of the easiest things I've ever done, but I think it turned out pretty well. And I must have been paying attention somewhere, because I did this one off the top of my head! ;)
This little guy is such a patient model for me. He loves his new tee - "It's GOLD, mom!" - and I love how it looks on him. I made him a size 4 (he's a 3-4 RTW) and it fits perfectly. Pockets are always the perfect addition to children's clothing (and adults, too, let's face it!). A zipper adds interest, both visual and tactile. Try mixing it up and placing a kangaroo pocket, or add them to the side seams.
The Primary Tee & Dress is a unisex pattern in 11 sizes from 12 months to 12 years, so you can use it for a long time. It's a great basic wardrobe builder, and Chelsea has a great free Knit So Scary ecourse on her blog, so with that and this pattern, a beginner has the perfect base to start - and an experienced sewist can make up a whole wardrobe in no time!
