Happy Anniversary Sofilantjes!: Solis Goes Swimming (and Liv too!)

I'm back for Sofilantjes' SECOND Anniversary Tour! (Here's the first anniversary post!) This year is all about having fun with Sofilantjes' patterns and doing some mixing and mashing. The Solis tunic and dress was released very recently, and when I saw the back I knew I had to have it!

Instead of a dress, I decided to turn Solis into a swimming suit. I got some fun polka dot swim fabric from Denver Fabrics, and "pink is my FAVORITE color!" says Natalie. For the past month, anyway.

The transformation was pretty simple! The bodice of the Solis dress is designed to hit right at the waist, but for turning it into a tankini I lengthened it about four inches to sit on the hips.
For the swim bottoms I cut out some quick shorties and attached them to the free! Liv Skirt pattern. Leaving off the pockets made it about the fastest skort ever. The two layers are attached at the waist (basted), then I serged the Liv waistband on, treating the shorts and skirt as one piece.

She's fully covered, but with the comfy skimming fit of Liv she's able to move and play freely in the pool or sprinkler.

The back strap detail of Solis is just lovely, and so easy on a swimming suit. Natalie has a store bought tankini with a halter strap, but it has a small plastic hook at the back, and that pulls at her hair when she takes it off. Solis has no closures - point for this suit!

I made the same size I would use for the dress and skirt on their own, and since this particular swim fabric has surprisingly little stretch, it fits quite snugly, as a swimming suit should. She might not be able to wear it through the summer if she grows more, but little sister is right in line behind her for it!

    1. It's a wonderful option! Just a little pattern hacking, but it's not complicated and makes a great suit (even if none of it was intended to be!) ;)
