Spring Break PJ Party!: A Sugar Plum for Sugarplum

Hi again! I'm back today with my own PJ Party sewing for the tour!

I used the Sugar Plum Nightgown from Peekaboo Pattern Shop, because my daughter has a RTW nightgown in the same style that she loves, and because of the name - her doll (from the talented Lani at The Plush Plum) is named Sugarplum!

This tour is coinciding with the monthly theme of the Sew Your (Pattern) Stash group on Facebook I co-admin - toys/dolls/plushies. By sewing "dolly&me" jammies, I managed to squeak in my monthly challenge under the wire as well!

I had a yard of this Lakehouse "Cotton Candy" print fabric (get it - candy...sugarplums? ;) ) and with some coordinating lavender I managed to just squeak out her size 5 and the included dolly pattern! It's a little big on Sugarplum but she doesn't seem to mind.

It was a good day for an indoor photo session - this week it's been rainy and snowy in Wyoming! Perfect for snuggling up with a cozy favorite blanket, a loved dolly, a good book, and new PJs!

I've had so much fun preparing for, hosting, and joining up on this tour. Truly the Biggest PJ Party Ever, and I hope you're enjoying all the posts!

We'll just consider these outtakes.

For The Love of Legends: Spirit of a Unicorn

For the Love of Legends Blog Tour hosted by CraftingCon and Phat Quarters

Joining the Love of Legends tour today with my daughter's (current) favorite mythological creature - the Unicorn!

I remember as a child listening to Roger Whittaker sing "The Unicorn" (a song depicting Noah's Ark and the failure to collect the unicorn, thus explaining why there are none to be seen today). The idea of such a magical being sparks imagination and story telling, and it's no wonder children love them.

I hadn't thought about unicorns for a long time, and I'd certainly never tried to study them much. In searching for some inspiration, I came across this website, which goes into explaining the sign of the unicorn - I've never heard of primal astrology, and I read the description with some amusement.

Unicorns are "outgoing, energetic, smart, and unique...they can also be self-centered, attention-starved, restless, and excessively eccentric."

I think that describes Nat to a T. (To be fair to her, most of their "negative" qualities describe a lot of small children - lol!)

"(Unicorn)s are my spirit animal"

Mackinaw Coat

You guys.

I made this. It's awesome.

The Mackinaw Coat by DbCA (Designs by Call Ajaire) is truly a labor of love, time consuming and awe inspiring. The bound buttonholes are (though not perfect) a masterpiece - these were my second attempt, when the "aha!" moment came and I finally understood how they worked!

I love a pattern that teaches new skills, and this pattern is full of them. Bagging the lining, not to mention how the whole thing is constructed (the Hobbes Hooded Jacket by Momma Quail Patterns uses the same technique. It's amazing!) It's going to make you feel like a sewing superstar when you're done.

And if you're one of those pro people who can sew a bagged lining and bound buttonholes in your sleep, then all the more reason that you need the Mackinaw - you'll have a cute new coat for your little love in no time! ;)

I love that once again, I've been able to make something so adorable AND functional. Seeing my kids wearing things I've made and looking good in them is indescribable - I love it!!
